Donna is sound monitoring in a Waihi street close to the Martha Mine open pit. The microphone at the right of the photograph is attached to a sound level meter and a graph recorder. Donna is noting the time of the reading and the wind’s speed and direction. Other sounds occurring during the reading such as birds, insects and cars are also noted on the sheet. The information gained from the monitoring is entered into a database and reported to the district council at regular intervals.
