Martha Mine technician, Donna, is collecting the water from a dust deposition gauge. Heavier particles of dust fall to the ground quickly and are caught within a funnel above the dust deposition gauge. Rain also passes through the funnel and into a bucket.
Once a month the bucket is changed, the water is filtered and the filter with dust attached is dried. The filter is weighed and analysed to determine the amount of dust. The measurement is expressed in grams per square metre per month (g/m/month).
